Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron Visits CASA of the Heartland

Attorney General, Daniel Cameron, meets with CASA of the Heartland staff.

Kentucky State Attorney General Daniel Cameron visited with CASA of the Heartland on Thursday, May 19. The visit included a meeting with CASA representatives to discuss the dire need for CASA volunteers, as well as increasing number of child abuse and neglect cases across the state.

During the meeting, CASA of the Heartland Executive Director, Norma Hatfield, stressed that the burden that is being placed on Cabinet for Health and Family Services is far too overwhelming. Hatfield encouraged Cameron to work with the legislature to seek ways in which the current system could be improved.

During the meeting, Hatfield also stated that CASA of the Heartland needs more volunteers. Cameron acknowledged this need, and when speaking to the media afterwards, he encouraged others to do so.

“One of the things that sticks out from our conversation is that there are a lot of children that need help but the workers are few,” said Cameron. “Part of what I want to do as the Attorney General is ensure that we amplify the message of this CASA in particular, obviously, I grew up here in Hardin County. And so I would encourage folks to volunteer. We gotta keep pushing hard. I know all these folks in this room believe that we’ve got a lot of work to do in front of us.”
