ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – CASA of the Heartland announced they will be expanding their services to cover a five county region. Previously, CASA of the Heartland served Hardin and LaRue Counties, including the Fort Knox community. Now the organization will add Grayson, Breckinridge and Meade Counties to their service area this year.
Grayson, Breckinridge, and Meade Counties are not new to the Kentucky CASA Network. These counties were formerly served under the Tri-County CASA organization which voted to dissolve earlier this year. Following that announcement, CASA of the Heartland decided to expand their services to ensure that the children in those counties would not go unserved and could continue to benefit from CASA.
“Our goal at CASA of the Heartland is to advocate for the best interest of every child to whom we are assigned,” said CASA of the Heartland Executive Director Michelle Kail. “Now, we can work to make that goal a reality for children in these three additional counties while continuing our work in Hardin and LaRue counties.”
There are currently 72 children on the waitlist for a CASA of the Heartland volunteer, including the three new counties.
“We are really excited to include these new counties into our service area,” said Kail. “But we know that means we are going to have to work even harder to recruit and retain volunteers to support the children in all five counties that we cover.”
CASA of the Heartland was originally organized in Hardin County in 2007 to recruit, train, and support community volunteers who advocate on behalf of abused, neglected and dependent children under the protection of the Hardin County Family Court system, including Fort Knox families. In 2023, CASA of the Heartland expanded their services into LaRue County.
