CASA of the Heartland hosts two Pinwheel Planting events

CASA of the Heartland hosted two pinwheel planting community events on Thursday and Friday to kick off National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is observed in April each year.

With the help of volunteers from the community, CASA planted a total of 500 pinwheels at Lincoln Square to represent the total number of children in LaRue County. And on Thursday, CASA of the Heartland, in partnership with the Elizabethtown Police Department (EPD), planted a total of 1,000 pinwheels outside of EPD’s headquarters to represent the total number of children in Hardin County.

“The blue and white pinwheels are a national symbol for child abuse prevention and represent the happy and healthy childhood that all children deserve,” said CASA of the Heartland Executive Director Michelle Kail.

The pinwheels will remain planted until the end of April to raise awareness of the need for child abuse prevention and advocacy on behalf of impacted children.

“Child abuse prevention can be a difficult topic to discuss,” said Kail. “But we are hopeful that this event will encourage our community members to have those tough conversations before abuse or neglect occur because our kids are worth it.”

The LaRue County event was sponsored by the City of Hodgenville, Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health System, The Cecilian Bank, and Lincoln Trail District HANDS Program. The Hardin County event was sponsored by Elizabethtown Police Department, Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health System, The Cecilian Bank, Elizabethtown Rotary Club, and Lincoln Trail District HANDS Program.
